Risk practices in politics and the financial sector: A comparative analysis of their characteristics and of translational dynamics across social fields

The aim of the research project is to conduct a comparative analysis of specific meanings and understandings of risk in the financial sector and the field of politics. We look at risk from a theory-neutral perspective as an indicator of a situation that requires a decision with an uncertain outcome. In particular, we construct various translations processes which – according to our thesis – highlight the increased interweaving of these fields, producing shifts in the respective meanings of risk. The project has the overarching goal of developing a better sociological understanding of the meaning and handling of risk in two key social fields.

Public limited companies between profit-making and corporate social responsibility – addressing institutional non-complementarity in organisations

The project focuses on addressing the contradictory requirements of public limited companies. In concrete terms it looks at the contradiction between the organisation’s goals of profit-making and corporate social responsibility. The project studies how organisation members address the non-complementarity that is generated, and which adjustments to the organisational structure are made as a result of this.
