Studying Sociology

Your guide to studying sociology

At the Institute of Sociology you can study sociology at bachelor's level (60, 90 or 120 credits in a two-subject degree) and at master's level (120 credits or 45/75 credits). Important deadlines

• Erasmus+ for the coming academic year: apply by 15 February
• Registration for modules and exams in Löwenportal: from the beginning to the middle of each semester; exact dates in Löwenportal
• master's application deadline: 31.08

Student association

The Sociology Student Association (Studentische Institutsgruppe) answers questions from students for students.

Recognition of modules credits (also from other Unis.) and going to a higher semester

1. Download the forms from the webpage of Examination Office (credit / placement).
2. Fill in the forms.
3. Meet with those responsible for the module (professors) to obtain signatures and to clarify any questions.
4. Have forms signed by the chairman of the Examination Board of the Institute of Sociology (bring your completed forms to the secretary of the institute (S. Dey or B. Tuchardt).
